the Story

An Scéal

the  Wildkind  book

Open watercolor books with black and gray ink illustrations and handwritten text describing a weather scene: feathers, rain, and a mountain.

Wildkind began as a poem written by a mother for her children.

A mothers dream for her daughters to live a life wild and kind.

To awaken our senses & connect to the wild to nurture a true sense of self & sense of place.

To see ourselves in each other & encourage a kindness without borders.

Author & illustrator Ciara Tinney describes it as a story of hope & healing,

for all the children growing on the island of Ireland, for those who have been displaced through conflict, war & environmental disaster and those of us who are digital natives, disconnected from the wilds and navigating life across two landscapes, the digital & the natural.

We can all choose a slower, more sustainable & more connected way to live,

wild and kind, together.

Ciara Tinney is a writer, artist and film maker. She began writing Wildkind after the birth of her first daughter.

“Giving birth & becoming a Mother was an experience so raw & wild, overwhelming & beautiful. Writing Wildkind helped navigate this transitional time.

What had my Mother passed down to me? What did I want to pass on to my children?

Wildkind became our anchor & our ethos. My daughter was thankfully followed by two sisters. As we continued to grow together, Wildkind grew with us. Into a poem, a painting, a book. It became woven & wearable.

It became a community We Grow Slow, helping others find ways to slow down & connect to the wilds around us.

Dreams really came true when we began working on the animated film adaptation with the wonderful Dog Ears Productions.”

Wildkind is a call to come home , to our breath , to our bodies , to our mother, earth .
